Paranoiac Fantasy

Paranoiac Fantasy explores my conception of home using the language of the Department of Homeland Security. The DHS was created after the terrorist attacks of 9/11 to address at a federal level the fear and trauma that followed. Its mission is to prevent terrorist attacks, reduce vulnerability, as well as minimize the damage and assist in recovery in the event attacks that do occur.

Using this framework, the book looks at my separation from my birth parents as the traumatic catalyst that created my own internal department of homeland security—finding ways to reduce vulnerability and avoid events that could trigger feelings of trauma and fear.
